Stephen Pace Biography

The west has always held a fascination for me. As a child, I remember my mother's slideshows of her trips to the western National Parks in her college days. I suppose this is where my desire for open space and sky found its outlet. It would be years later that I would finally visit and later still, move to the Great American West.

I spent ten years on Northern New Mexico, mostly in Taos. The light in the high desert is indescribable to someone who, like myself, had spent the previous part of their life in the northeast. It was eye opening and inspiring for me. This is what I strive to capture and convey in my work. The sense of wonder, the vastness of earth and sky which is primaly stirring, yet absent from most of our daily lives. There are other aspects to the subjects I choose, or more likely, choose me. However this is the one that first did and continues to cause me to raise my camera and try to convey what I see and feel to those I have not even met.

Fortune and romance (not in that order) have brought me to Utah. I never thought I'd leave Taos. Times change and the new landscape holds its own challenges and rewards. Sage desert gives way to Redrock country. Horizon filling expanses yield to the jagged outlines of the Wasatch ad Oquirr mountains. No doubt I and my work will change as well.

I hope you enjoy your visit to my view of the world we inhabit. Feel free to drop me a line and I perhaps find something here of value.
